Fitting

At a fitting, the garment is being worked on while it is on your body. Standing still on cue is part of the job; moving on cue is too.

The team may check length, ease, sleeve fall, a closure or what happens when you walk, sit or raise your arms. A Fashion and Textiles study based on observed fitting sessions shows that fittings move repeatedly between measuring, movement, pinning, marking and technical discussion.

Depending on the job, you may meet a stylist, pattern cutter, product technician, designer or wardrobe team. They are often talking about the garment rather than about you. “Too loose at the waist” can be an instruction to alter the sample, not a judgement about your body.

Before you arrive

Know which measurements were sent to the agency. If they have changed materially, say so before the team discovers the difference on the sample. Wear the underwear or base layer requested in the brief rather than inventing a different silhouette.

A fitting may be included in a booking or handled separately. Select London, for example, publishes specific fitting fees in its terms. That is not a global rule; it is a reason to check how your own booking treats the fitting.

A fitting is not always fit modelling

You can attend a fitting before a shoot without working as a professional fit model. A fit model acts as a repeatable reference body during garment development, where stable measurements and consistent feedback matter even more.
