Casting & callback
A callback means they want to see you again from a smaller shortlist. It still does not mean you are booked.
At the first casting, following the request matters more than trying to be memorable. If they ask for a front introduction, a profile and one specific action, do those things cleanly before adding anything. Self-tapes are compared side by side; ignoring framing or file instructions can make somebody else’s sorting job harder.

A digital request may include a deadline, sides, reference media or precise actions. Read it once before setting up the camera and once before sending. A polished take cannot fix a missing requested shot.
The callback
A callback is another selection round. The French agency federation FFAM describes it as a second casting with a reduced group, while current Casting Networks tools allow callbacks to be scheduled in person or on Zoom. The client may want another look, a chemistry check, a wardrobe try-on or a more specific direction.
Re-read the new invitation rather than assuming the first instructions still apply. Time, place, wardrobe and material can change. And do not personally block an entire day unless your agency or production has actually asked you to hold it.
Self-tape
For video, clear picture, understandable sound and an undistracting background usually do more work than production value. Rules vary by project and agreement; SAG-AFTRA’s current self-tape provisions are a good reminder that notice, material and deadlines can be contract-specific. The request in front of you is the one to follow.
